If you do travel, consider using a carbon offset calculator to lessen your impact on the environment! Easy superheroalert for you today. MakeUseOf did a great article with FIVE different carbon offset calculators that you can use.
What’s a carbon offset calculator? It’s when you find out how much carbon pollution your activity is emitting, and you find ways to make up for that pollution with various different activities to basically put your output back down to zero.
There’s also a browser add-on you can use to actually off-set the carbon costs of your online shopping this holiday season, too. They’re called CarbonCroc–they contacted me on Twitter after I posted this.
If you’re still confused about what carbon off-setting is, it’s kind of like doing penance in the Catholic church way back in the day. “Forgive me, environment, for I have sinned…” “Okay, go plant ten trees.”
While that metaphor absolutely makes me laugh, it’s true that we can be a little judgmental about how we take care of the world, and I don’t want that for anyone. I want to be conscientious, but kind, and human-focused. And, of course, ultimately focused on the reason I want to preserve the world: because it showcases and glorifies the Divine, and sustains so many wonderfully-made people to do the same!
So check out the article, check out CarbonCroc, and then, if you’re ready to go beyond reading to action, and activism to heroism, join me here.
